Machines & Methods

Description

Step into the heart of the workshop and build your confidence using the essential machinery that brings woodworking projects to life. Machines & Methods is a hands-on, full-day course designed for beginners and intermediate woodworkers who want to master the setup and safe use of key woodworking machines — and understand how to use them together for accurate, repeatable results.

You’ll learn the complete process of preparing timber, from rough or reclaimed boards to clean, square components ready for joinery or assembly. Along the way, you’ll get practical experience with:

  • Jointer & Thicknesser – flatten, square, and dimension timber

  • Tablesaw – rip, crosscut, square edges, and safely process sheet goods

  • Bandsaw – for curved cuts, resawing, and versatile timber work

  • Mitre Saw – quick, clean cuts and repeatable angles

  • Drill Press & Measuring Tools – precision hole drilling and layout

  • Dust Collection & Workshop Safety – how to keep your space clean and safe

This workshop isn’t just about individual tools — it’s about understanding how they work together. Learn proper machine order, grain direction, cutting strategies, and how to avoid common pitfalls that lead to inaccuracy or waste.

Whether you're preparing timber for a personal project, working with reclaimed wood, or simply want to feel at home in the machine room, Machines & Methods gives you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make better decisions in the workshop.
