Bits & Bearings

Description

Unlock the full potential of one of woodworking’s most versatile tools — the router. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to safely use both handheld and table-mounted routers for a wide range of tasks, from decorative edgework to precise joinery and shaping.

Perfect for beginners and intermediate woodworkers alike, Routing Essentials breaks down not just the how, but the why behind each cut — helping you choose the right bit, method, and setup for your project.

You’ll learn:

  • Router Safety & Setup – understanding speed, depth, and feed direction

  • Bit Selection & Maintenance – what to use, when, and how to care for them

  • Handheld Routing Techniques – trimming, inlays, chamfers, rounds, and more

  • Router Table Skills – profiling edges, routing small parts, and using fences

  • Template Routing & Jigs – repeatable shapes and patterns made easy

  • Joinery with the Router – housing joints, dados, rabbets, and more

You’ll also get to explore different accessories, baseplates, guide bushings, and jig systems — so you leave knowing not just how to use a router, but how to get creative with it.

Whether you’ve never picked up a router before or you’ve dabbled without much confidence, Routing Essentials is the workshop that will take your skills to the next level — clean cuts, smooth edges, and limitless potential.

*Please note that we previously offered a beginner and advanced classes separately, this class is an enhanced combination of these two workshops, and is perfect for a refresher and upskilling experience for those who have attended either workshops or likewise for complete beginners.
