Hewn & Hollowed

Description

Spend a day slowing down, tuning in, and learning the satisfying craft of carving your own wooden spoon — all with just a few simple tools and a piece of seasoned timber.

Hewn & Hollowed is a relaxed, hands-on workshop perfect for beginners or anyone curious about hand tool woodworking. Guided by one of our experienced instructors, you’ll explore the full process of spoon carving: from selecting the right timber and sketching your design, to carving, hollowing, shaping, and finishing.

You’ll learn:

  • How to safely and confidently use carving knives and gouges

  • How to read grain direction and carve with control

  • Design principles for balance, comfort, and function

  • Finishing techniques for a smooth, food-safe surface

  • Tips on tool care, sharpening, and working safely at home

Whether you're here to get creative, try something new, or simply enjoy a slow and rewarding day of making, you’ll leave with a beautifully handcrafted spoon — and the knowledge to keep carving long after the class ends.
